Conference Time

My parents drove out for Conference last weekend. Jared and Amy came down, and Brock is in Provo with us-we all had a good time together.
Brock, me, Shawn, and dad outside the conference center-we went to the Sunday morning session and it was very cold and rainy.
On our way back to our car we met up with our aunts, uncle and cousins.
Dad, Mom, Brock, Me, Shawn, Todd, Brandalyn, Lisa, Alli, Maddie, Rachelle, and Sophie At the Conference Center getting ready to leave we stopped to get a picture with our handsome cousin Thomas-who is a freshman at the Airforce Academy and on their mens gymnastics team. We love and miss Tom.
Me (dont mind the double chin-not such a great angle for me), Shawn, Brock, and Thomas
We had a great time with my parents (like always).
-Brock and I requested that my mom make us a turkey dinner with all of the Nelson traditions since we will not be home for Thanksgiving this year
-We got to hang with Jared and Amy for a couple of days
-my mom totally scrubbed and made my shower white and beautiful again
-We did alittle shopping together (mother/daughter bonding)
-We all spent the night at the Little America on Saturday night and enjoyed a yummy brunch at the Grand America after conference,
Thank you mom and dad for coming out to visit-we love having you in town...and of course you are WELCOME anytime!

Grandma Platts Funeral

Shawns Grandma Platt passed away last week and we had the family funeral in Richfeild, Utah on Friday. Although my family had all arrived the afternoon before for the General Conference weekend, it was still nice to get away for the day and to spend our Friday with all of Shawns family-and there is alot of extended family. It is also always so fun to see all of Shawn's siblings and all of our cute little nieces and nephews.
Here is Shawn with his Grandpa Platt-he was so sad to now be alone-him and his wife had been married for 66 years.
Grandma Platts pink coffin-I thought it was fun that she had a pink coffin. It was very sweet that grandpa Platt sat next to her coffin in his wheelchair and would not leave until she was lowered into the ground. Everyone had left (besides Eugene) to sit with him until she was lowered into the ground. Our handsome little nephews, Corbin and Hadley, holding pink roses from the top of grandma Platts coffin

Shawn, Necha, Maggie, Josh, Mandy, and Brandon holding Brayden and Tessa, Corbin, and Hadley in the front at the burial

Shawn holding our newest nephew, baby Andy. So cute with all of his dark hair

After Grandma Platts burial all of Shawns siblings and parents walked over to Aaron's grave who was also buried in the same cemetery. Aaron is Shawns little brother who passed away when he was 11 years old. I had never been to his grave before-it was neat to be there with his family (sorry Ben and Becky we all missed you that day)

After visiting Aarons grave we stopped by to see Shawns other grandmas grave-who was also buried in the same cemetery.

We all had a nice day on Friday celebrating Grandma Platts life and then visiting both Shawns Grandma Nielsens grave as well as his little brothers

Frist Day of Fall Semester 2009

First day of Fall Semester for Shawn-every semester I get a picture of him standing in that same spot in the kitchen with his backpack on a smile on his face...such a cute boy!

Ft Bridger Rendezvous

Back when Shawn and I were dating he told me about the Ft Bridger Rendezvous that he use to go to with his family in Ft Bridger Wyoming. I had always wanted to go since then-so this last Friday we headed up to Evanston to spend the night with Shawns dad and then the next morning Shawn and I and his sister Necha, her husband Josh, and their 2 girls headed east to Ft Bridger for the big event.
It was so crazy. There were thousands of people dressed up like pioneers, Indians, and mountain men. We were the odd ones out because we were dressed in normal street clothes. This is quite the event in wyoming-it is a 4 day event and people come from all over to re-enact the Ft Bridger fir trapping days. There were tons of fun booths everywhere and people sold everything from real animal firs and hats, arrow heads, and anything that would have been sold back in the pioneer days. We also go to tour the old fort and all of the buildings that were restored and still located in the fort. We also got to see an Indian show, we briefly learned how to trap beavers, and make nails, and we got to eat some roasted nuts and Indian fry bread.

Here is Shawn and I pulling the pioneer handcart...there was not much room in the handcart so we would have needed a couple of them.
Lots of fur hats-everything from skunk to fox, wolf, and raccoon
Most of the people that came out for the weekend set up teepees to stay in with their families for the 4 days-they were not messing around

Some crazy Mountain Men-I know that I exaggerate sometimes....but this is seriously how everyone was dressed

Shawn and I in front of one of the tee pee

A crazy man at one of the booths. Shawn bought me some buttons made out of animal bone to use in my scrapbooking

Shawn and I with some of the Indian dancers-it was a hot day too I cant imagine how hot they were with all that leather on

Shawn with a Wolf (or Woof as my mom says it) hat that cost $500

Shawn in a booth full of furs. There were thousands of furs everywhere that people were trying to sell-and all real too. I cant imagine what a crazy Oregonian enviormentalist or PETA would think if they were here to see it all.

We had a fun day-I am happy I went to experiance all the crazy Rendezvous days at Ft Bridger

Baby Andy is here!

Shawn called during my lunch break on Monday to let me know that his sister, Amanda, had her baby that morning, so we made plans to go and visit that evening as soon as I got done with work. We headed to the hospital in the Murray area as soon as i got done with work.
It was fun to go to the hospital to see a brand new little baby (it had been a while since I had visited and seen a brand new baby at the hospital).
Amanda looked great for just having a baby and Ben was tired but so excited, Vincent was there too and so excited to show off his new little brother.
Baby Andy was so sweet and tiny. He looked so good with beautiful pink skin and so so much black hair.
Baby Andy just added another little nephew to out list of 10 nephews and 2 nieces. He is so sweet and we are so happy to have him here with us in the Platt family.

Shed Raising in Evanston

Last weekend Shawn and I headed up to Evanston to help his dad make a shed for his backyard. Shawn's older brother Brandon met us up there as well. The 3 men spent the whole day Saturday building the shed in the heat of an August day.
My day was not as hot and busy...I got to read, relax, and take a nap. But I was also in charge of feeding the boys lunch, dinner, drinks and snacks through out the day.

The almost finished shed...all it needs is some paint, finishing touches on roof, and the door.

Platt Family Reunion

This year for the Platt family reunion we all headed up to the Uinta Mountains to go camping. We had everyone there except for Shawn's youngest brother, Joseph, who is on his mission in Tennessee. We also had my youngest brother Kyle with us as well-he was planning on flying out to stay with us for a week and it happened to be at the same time we had our camping trip-so we just brought him along with us. The Platt family are some of the most welcoming people there are-so I know he felt very welcome and had a great time too.
We arrived Wednesday night and set up camp-that night we had a huge rain-thunder-lightning storm it was so loud outside our tent-but luckily we stayed nice and dry. Kyle got alittle wet in his tent so we made a nice tarp covering with about 4 tarps the next day. The rest of the camping trip stayed pretty cold with occasional rain and lightning storms every once in a while.
During our 4 days camping we all played lots of games (especially Ticket to Ride-everyones favorite) we ate yummy dutch oven food and my favorite-Smores, went to the Provo Falls and Mirror Lake, and got to play with all of our cute nieces and nephews. There are 9 nephews and 2 nieces in the family with 2 pregnant mammas who both have more boys to join the family. They are all 5 and under and so fun to play with.
We all had such a fun time together camping in the mountains. Although I do not like that I could not shower everyday or have a bathroom and I am always scared of a bear attack and I am not a very experienced camper-we defiantly need to make this an annual trip!

Thank you Platt family for such a fun time together and it was also great getting to meet Jade and Dot (Shawns cousins who came too)!!!

Here is a big group shot of everyone (again except for Joseph, and Amanda's husband Ben, who was at work) Shawn and I in front of our tent (as you can see if was very cold-I always had at least 2 sweatshirts on)
Corbin, Cael, Jonathan, Hadley, and Vince. Such fun little boys and they all had so much fun playing together

Shawn and Ben after they got out of the falls-It seriously was in the 50-60s everyday and the water was even colder then that since we were in the middle of the mountains-Shawn and Ben decided they would be macho men and impress us all by going swimming
