Finally...some snow!

We did not get any snow this year until Dec. 6th-crazy! We woke up Sunday morning and there was alittle snow on the ground...now it has not stopped since then.
Shawn is so excited. He loves snow, Brock and Shawn have been going crazy having to wait this long to go skiing.
The snow is here and we are excited-but it will be April soon enough and we will be anxiously waiting for all of the snow to melt away and for Spring to appear.

Our nephew is stronger than your nephew

This past Saturday Shawn and I drove up to Ogden area to go and watch our oldest nephew wrestle. I was shocked when we got to the high school for the tournament-I was expecting a little mat with a few little boys wrestling. It turns out wrestling is a pretty big deal in Northern Utah. There were 2 gyms full of hundreds of little boys ages 5-9 wrestling.
This is Corbins second year wrestling and he is amazing! It was fun to watch him. He has only lost 1 match in the last 2 years. He won all 3 matches that we saw him wrestle- he sure had one proud uncle!

Shawn and Hadley watching Corbin wrestle. Hadley will start wrestling next year.

Corbin on the mat waiting for his opponent to come back onto the mat to announce the winner. The little boy he was wrestling lost and ran off crying...so Corbin just stood there waiting for him to come back so they could raise his hand in the air signifying he won.

Corbin pinning his opponent

Proud Uncle Shawn with Corbin and his first place metal.
When I asked Corbin how he got so good at wrestling he said, "its because I am a Platt"
Shawn let me know that this was just going to be a glimpse into what our future is going to be like when we have little boys....now I wishing for all girls!
Thank you Corbin for letting us come and watch you wrestle-we had alot of fun, uncle Shawn says he is going to make sure you teach our little boys to wrestle as good as you someday!

Here are a few more things that we have been up to...
I bought some more material and am going to make another blanket-this time it is going to be a striped blanket. And I bought some flannel to make some flannel blankets and burp cloths.

I have also gotten all of my Christmas cards done-now all I need to do is buy the cute Christmas stamps at the post office and wait until December to send them all out.
-I have also found 2 Christmas music stations and I have been defiantly enjoying my Christmas music when I am driving
-In & Out just opened here in Provo and I am excited for a cheese burger with grilled onions and a chocolate shake....we are just waiting for the lines to go down a bit first
-I have found my Christmas dress all picked out and ordered-just waiting for that to arrive
-looking forward to a Platt Thanksgiving this year and will be heading up to Evanston soon
-and jealous that I am taking Brock to the airport today so he can spend a week in Oregon with the Family

My new hobby

I have a discovered a new hobby to keep me busy... I have started making blankets. So, far I have made 2 baby blankets-I have tried to make sure that both blankets can be used for either a boy or girl. I am not really that good at it yet but I am getting better with each row I sew. I dont have a baby yet-but when I do they will have lots of blankets to keep them warm.

Just another reason...

Yet just another reason that proves that I have some of the best friends and family there are. I got a knock on the door and standing there was a flower delivery lady with some bright and beautiful flowers just for me.
Thank you Bethany....they smell great!

Anniversary Inn

Shawn has been so busy with school, research, TAing and writing his science paper that I decided to surprise him with a fun weekend away. My friend Melissa has a hook up at the Anniversary Inn and so I called her up to see if we could get one of rooms for Friday night. Now the Anniversary Inn is a small hotel in Salt Lake that does all themed rooms. I told her to pick us out any room that was still available.
So, I packed our bags while Shawn was in studying and then told him I had a date planned and to get into the car.
We grabbed Hires for dinner and then checked into the hotel. We walked into, "Sultans Palace" it was great. Our bed was 6 feet high on the backs of 2 elephants, the room was all decked out and the bathroom was a dungeon with the shower and jetted tub having a huge dragon around it. It was a crazy room-but so fun. One of the best parts was that they had blinds on the windows that did not let any light into the room so we could sleep in all morning in total darkness. Our shower

And Shawn with our breakfast in the morning.

Thanks Melissa for helping me put together this fun and relaxing night away.

Christmas Card Pictures

I somehow was able to talk both Shawn and Brock to come outside with me to take some pictures for our Christmas card this year. It was a feat to get Shawn in a sweater and to get Brock to come out and actually take the pictures for us. I threatened them both-I had dinner almost finished in the kitchen and told them that they would not be eating until we got this done.
I even got a picture of Shawn and Brock together

And a group shot of all 3 of us.

Now I need to pick the picture that I want and design how I want to make my Christmas cards this year and start putting them together.

What we have been up to latley

-I walked outside and I could smell that autumn was in the air-and I love it!

-We have another new nephew-born on Halloween. That brings the total to 11 nephews and 2 nieces. We wish they lived closer so we could see this new little baby. Cant wait for pictures.

-Spent Halloween evening at the Woodleys. We are so grateful for such great cousins that live so close and who are so nice to always open their home up for our cousin parties.

-Shawn just registered for Winter classes last week-cant believe it is time to do that already.

-Cant believe that Thanksgiving is almost here with Christmas close behind. I do love the Holidays.

-It is great having a great little brother live so close. He is coming over to take our Christmas pictures for our Christmas cards.

-My parents just celebrated their 29 Anniversary yesterday. What an accomplishment-they are great examples to my siblings and I.

-With all the leaves falling off the trees-Shawn and I need to start raking them up-I have always hated doing this.

Children's Book Obsession

I have an obsession with children's books. I love them and I love to buy them. Anytime I go to Costoco or to the Deseret Bookstore or any store for that matter I try to find the chidlrens books section. If there is a sale then I will buy a book or 2. Most childrens books are pretty expensive ($10-20) a book. So, thats why I love sales and thought I might as well start to buy for my kids now.
Well, I was visiting my grandma Ellingson who came out to visit recently and we were at my cousins house and her daughter had a book order she had gotten from school-I remember loving bookorders when I was a kid. I was looking through the bookorder and saw so many books that I have been wanting to get-and they were so cheap.
I just got my books that I ordered from my cousin and I was so excited to look through them all and to add them to my bookshelf of kids books that I have started collecting!

Work Halloween Party

At work this year we had a Halloween Party on Friday. It was a lot of Fun. My team at work decided to dress up this year as the Adam's Family. Since I don't know much about the Adams Family and saw it once many many years ago-I decided to dress up as "the hand" So I was covered in all black except for my hand (pretty creative huh?) Then I was told that I had to put my hand on the dads head-so I obeyed-here is the end result of our teams version of the APX Adams Family!

Thank You

Recently I have had some difficult things come up. Now that it is all delt with and over with I am able to look back and see the wonderful blessings that my Heavenly Father has given me. One of them being the amazing Love and support that Shawn and I have from our family and friends.
During my sad time I got so many phone calls, text, letters, and flowers from my parents, siblings, grandmas, other extended family members, and friends.
I came to realized this one day when I got home from work and Shawn surprised me with a flower that my dear friend, Cheryl, had sent over for me. Then after checking the mail that same day I got 4 cards from family and friends letting me know that they were thinking about me and that Shawn and I both were in their prayers. I was very touched that day and appreciated what so many had done for us.
And that day I realized (like I have so many other days) that Shawn and I are so blessed with great friends and family members who love us and care so much about us!
There are always so many blessings that come with our trials in life. I wanted to thank all of the wonderful family members and friends that we have be blessed with!
Cute picture of Shawn showing off his Wyoming Cowboy roots. He walked out of the bedroom Sunday morning saying that he was ready for church-I think he was waiting to get a reaction out of me. He got that cowboy tie from his grandpa that passed away recently and thought it would be fun to try on. I did think he looked like a wester Saloon owner.
....he did not wear that to church-he did put his suit and real tie on.

Just a cute picture of Shawn getting bundled up for one of his RC races that he goes to on Thursdays. The days are really starting to cool down lately.....snow will be here soon.

Conference Time

My parents drove out for Conference last weekend. Jared and Amy came down, and Brock is in Provo with us-we all had a good time together.
Brock, me, Shawn, and dad outside the conference center-we went to the Sunday morning session and it was very cold and rainy.
On our way back to our car we met up with our aunts, uncle and cousins.
Dad, Mom, Brock, Me, Shawn, Todd, Brandalyn, Lisa, Alli, Maddie, Rachelle, and Sophie At the Conference Center getting ready to leave we stopped to get a picture with our handsome cousin Thomas-who is a freshman at the Airforce Academy and on their mens gymnastics team. We love and miss Tom.
Me (dont mind the double chin-not such a great angle for me), Shawn, Brock, and Thomas
We had a great time with my parents (like always).
-Brock and I requested that my mom make us a turkey dinner with all of the Nelson traditions since we will not be home for Thanksgiving this year
-We got to hang with Jared and Amy for a couple of days
-my mom totally scrubbed and made my shower white and beautiful again
-We did alittle shopping together (mother/daughter bonding)
-We all spent the night at the Little America on Saturday night and enjoyed a yummy brunch at the Grand America after conference,
Thank you mom and dad for coming out to visit-we love having you in town...and of course you are WELCOME anytime!

Grandma Platts Funeral

Shawns Grandma Platt passed away last week and we had the family funeral in Richfeild, Utah on Friday. Although my family had all arrived the afternoon before for the General Conference weekend, it was still nice to get away for the day and to spend our Friday with all of Shawns family-and there is alot of extended family. It is also always so fun to see all of Shawn's siblings and all of our cute little nieces and nephews.
Here is Shawn with his Grandpa Platt-he was so sad to now be alone-him and his wife had been married for 66 years.
Grandma Platts pink coffin-I thought it was fun that she had a pink coffin. It was very sweet that grandpa Platt sat next to her coffin in his wheelchair and would not leave until she was lowered into the ground. Everyone had left (besides Eugene) to sit with him until she was lowered into the ground. Our handsome little nephews, Corbin and Hadley, holding pink roses from the top of grandma Platts coffin

Shawn, Necha, Maggie, Josh, Mandy, and Brandon holding Brayden and Tessa, Corbin, and Hadley in the front at the burial

Shawn holding our newest nephew, baby Andy. So cute with all of his dark hair

After Grandma Platts burial all of Shawns siblings and parents walked over to Aaron's grave who was also buried in the same cemetery. Aaron is Shawns little brother who passed away when he was 11 years old. I had never been to his grave before-it was neat to be there with his family (sorry Ben and Becky we all missed you that day)
Shawn and I in front of Aaron's little grave

After visiting Aarons grave we stopped by to see Shawns other grandmas grave-who was also buried in the same cemetery.
Brandon, Cynthia, Garrett, Shawn, Me, Amanda holding Vince Here is a picture of Aarons grave

Shawn holding Brayden

Shawn and some family in the background at Aarons grave

We all had a nice day on Friday celebrating Grandma Platts life and then visiting both Shawns Grandma Nielsens grave as well as his little brothers

Frist Day of Fall Semester 2009

First day of Fall Semester for Shawn-every semester I get a picture of him standing in that same spot in the kitchen with his backpack on a smile on his face...such a cute boy!

Ft Bridger Rendezvous

Back when Shawn and I were dating he told me about the Ft Bridger Rendezvous that he use to go to with his family in Ft Bridger Wyoming. I had always wanted to go since then-so this last Friday we headed up to Evanston to spend the night with Shawns dad and then the next morning Shawn and I and his sister Necha, her husband Josh, and their 2 girls headed east to Ft Bridger for the big event.
It was so crazy. There were thousands of people dressed up like pioneers, Indians, and mountain men. We were the odd ones out because we were dressed in normal street clothes. This is quite the event in wyoming-it is a 4 day event and people come from all over to re-enact the Ft Bridger fir trapping days. There were tons of fun booths everywhere and people sold everything from real animal firs and hats, arrow heads, and anything that would have been sold back in the pioneer days. We also go to tour the old fort and all of the buildings that were restored and still located in the fort. We also got to see an Indian show, we briefly learned how to trap beavers, and make nails, and we got to eat some roasted nuts and Indian fry bread.

Here is Shawn and I pulling the pioneer handcart...there was not much room in the handcart so we would have needed a couple of them.
Lots of fur hats-everything from skunk to fox, wolf, and raccoon
Most of the people that came out for the weekend set up teepees to stay in with their families for the 4 days-they were not messing around

Some crazy Mountain Men-I know that I exaggerate sometimes....but this is seriously how everyone was dressed

Shawn and I in front of one of the tee pee

A crazy man at one of the booths. Shawn bought me some buttons made out of animal bone to use in my scrapbooking

Shawn and I with some of the Indian dancers-it was a hot day too I cant imagine how hot they were with all that leather on

Shawn with a Wolf (or Woof as my mom says it) hat that cost $500

Shawn in a booth full of furs. There were thousands of furs everywhere that people were trying to sell-and all real too. I cant imagine what a crazy Oregonian enviormentalist or PETA would think if they were here to see it all.

We had a fun day-I am happy I went to experiance all the crazy Rendezvous days at Ft Bridger
