Retention Christmas Party

We had a party with my department at work last week. We had a great dinner, a white elephant gift exchange and Santa came. It was a fun time.

Corbin and Hadley Wrestling

Shawn and I went up to Ogden area on Saturday to watch our nephews wrestle. We had such a fun time watching them-they are so cute and good too. Shawn loves watching them wrestle and gets really intense watching them and it gets him very excited to coach our boys in wretling some day.

Corbin wrestling-he is 6 and this is his 3rd year wrestling-he is very good and only had a couple of losses in his 3 years. Hadley is 4 and this is his first year wrestling and he pinned all 3 of his opponents.
Uncle Shawn, Hadley with his first place medal, and Brayden watching Corbin wrestle. Corbin waiting for his match to start.

And a cute shot of Uncle Shawn, Hadley, Brayden, and Corbin. Such cute boys!
Thanks Platt boys for letting us come and watch you wrestle and cheer you on-we had a great time.

November

I have not posted for a bit so I thought I would add a few pictures and type about a few things that we have been doing in November. These pictures are a little out of order...
Shawn and I traveled up to Evanston for another Platt Thanksgiving. We had a great time with good food and family even though the temperatures got into the negatives. I did not take many pictures at all. But I did get 2 of "Uncle Shawn" playing with all of the kids. The kids love wrestling and playing with Shawn and he has fun with them too.
Vince, Tessa, Andy, and Maggie riding "Uncle Shawn the Horsie"

Shawn is taking a History of Creativity class this year and everyone has to make a creative project to turn in. Shawn decided to sculpt a Roman sculpture of an Egyptian man-so he combined Roman/Egyptian together, since they are learning about both of them in their class right now. I think he did a very good job with his sculpture-and he had only been working on it for a few days before it was done-I think he did a great job!
Shawn out shoveling the snow-he has been anxiously awaiting the snow to come. Both Shawn and Brock got season ski passes this year at Sundance and they have been going crazy waiting for Sundance to get enough snow to open up.
Tessa, Corbin, Maggie, Hadley, Shawn, and Brayden watching a Muppets Christmas. Shawn said he went into the play room where the kids were watching a movie and he thought he could go in to take a quick nap while the movie was on but said the movie was so annoying that he could not sleep at all. Now it is December and we have lots going on with Joseph coming home from his mission, Christmas parties, Sub for Santa with APX, watcing our nephews wrestle, and a trip home to Oregon for Christmas!

Kyle's Mission Call

My little brother got his mission call a few weeks back and I wanted to make sure and post it on my blog as a great thing for me to remember in my blog timeline. I unfortunately do not have any pictures since I was not physically a part of this exciting time for my family-but I was on the speaker phone listening! This is the only mission call opening from any of my siblings that I was not there for-that makes me sad.
But I am excited to announce that my baby brother is going to the Belo Horizonte, Brazil Mission and leaves Feb. 16th. Crazy to think that Kyle is old enough to go on a mission. I know that he will Love it!

I am sure my parents are very proud that their last child just got their mission call and is getting ready to go and Serve the Lord. I am sure it is nice for a parent to have all of their children serve missions...now we are just waiting for thier turn. My parents are anxiously waiting for Kyle to leave and my dads church calling to finish up so they can go on a mission too. I am not as anxious for them to leave...they will be great BUT they are going to be leaving soon after they start getting the grand kids that they have always been waiting for....

-Anyways I am excited for Kyles call and I know that he will be a great missionary!

APX / Notro Circus Party

I work for a great company-who really makes sure to take care of their employees. Besides moving into a brand new building in January and getting yummy free lunches everyday the company always has a big party for the employees and their families every year. This year the company hired Nitro Circus to come and perform. They turned the huge front lawn of the APX building into a track and then put on a huge show with guys jumping out of helicopters, dirt bikes, mini moto bikes, and bikes-it was like our own little X-Games. We also got free dinner, and unlimited drinks, popcorn, and candy. It was a great show and a great party put on by a great company!

4 states in 7 days

Shawn and I just got back from a great trip! We traveled 2,400 miles roundtrip and visited 4 different states.

Shawns best friend, Garrett, who he grew up with and is best friends with since they were 5 years old was getting married in North Platte, Nebraska and Shawn was asked to be the best man. So, we were planning on driving out to the wedding. We heard from The University of Nebraska and Shawn called and made the tour/interview for the same week of the Wedding. Then a few weeks after that we heard back from Creighton Dental school and it ended up that we also made the tour/interview again the same week of the wedding. Such a blessing that we were able to schedule all of these events at the same time. The trip kept extending from 4 days to 5 days and then finally to 7 days. But we were able to get a lot done and had such a fun time as well.

Day 1: we left Provo and got to Cheyenne, Wyoming on Tuesday night. We got to stay with my roomate, KaLee and her family. We had a good time visiting with them and seeing her cute little, Easton and Kendree.

Day 2: We got up and drove from Cheyenne to Omaha-that was a long drive and there is not much out there but alot of corn fields. We did stop in Sidney Nebraska to go see the Cabelas head quarters.

Day 3: We visited Creighton Dental School and enjoyed the school but did not enjoy the location of the school. The University is in downtown Omaha-as Shawn and I drove around the city we realized that we are more small town people than big city dwellers. After the tour we drove over to the Winter Quarters Temple-it is so tiny and on weekdays they only do 2 sessions a day and 4 on Fridays and Saturdays. We also had a chance to stop at the Winter Quarters Visitor Center and Cemetary and really enjoyed learning about the saints that camped in Winter Quarters before they finished their trek to Utah. Next we drove over to Iowa-for no particular reason-more to just say we have been to Iowa. Then we started heading west and got to Lincoln, Nebraska.

Day 4: We got up early and got to our tour/interview of the University of Nebraska Dental School-and we loved it. The school was great, the location was perfect, and the atmosphere was very laid back. There was 8 people there for interviews from all over and Shawn did great in his interview. We left UNL and really enjoyed everything about it...and kind of hope we get accepted there!

We left Lincoln and got into North Platte that night just in time for the wedding rehearsal and rehersal dinner.

Day 5: Havig Wedding. Since Shawn was the best man he was busy with pictures and being a part of the wedding and having to prepare a toast for the reception. He looked great in his tux! We left the wedding at 9:30 and decided to start part of our journey back west.

Day 6: We spent the night in Sidney and started driving North to South Dakota since we had one free day on Sunday with nothing to do until the Creghton interview on Monday. We decided to head up to S. Dakota and visit Mount Rushmore (one of the things I have wanted to do for a long time). The drive was long and there is really nothing out there-but we did get to see lots of antelope, buffalo, cyote, and deers. Mt Rushmore was amazing! We found a nice lady that took some pictures for us and I am excited to make these pictures into our Christmas cards this year! After a quick stop we headed down south west and drove through the middle of nowhere, Wyoming and got to Laramie that night. We spent the night with Shawns step brother and his wife and enjoyed getting to know them a little better.

Day 7: Got up early and Shawn had his Crieghton interview and then we packed up and started the 6 hour drive home. We got home Monday evening and were tired and decided to do nothing else the rest of the night.

We are now home and Shawn is trying to get caught up with school and I am busy getting things organized and cleaned and ready for winter!

Welfare Square/Manti Temple

I have always wanted to go and take a tour of Welfare Square in Salt Lake...but my wonderfully adventurous husband has never wanted to go. So, we took advantage of going when my parents came into town. It was a great time and we really learned so much about what the church does for its members and for millions of people all over the world! Our tour guides were 2 sweet sister missionaries: 1 from Norway and the other from Pakistan (the sister from Pakistan was amazing-we had a good time talking to her and the church in her country).

My parents left Monday morning to Manti for 2 days since they got married there and they are getting ready to celebrate their 30th wedding Anniversary!

We had a good time touring Welfare Square and I recommend if anyone has a chance to go-to stop by for a tour.
